IP66 vs IP67

We are often asked what environmental specification for electronic products in surveillance industry is better: IP66 or IP67? Today we have decided to clarify the difference between IP66 and IP67, so that everybody could make a right choice purchasing a CCTV camera.

Talking about video surveillance IP66 and IP67 are arguably the most widely used specifications all over the world. Even though many people think that these specifications cover the power, vibration, shock, etc., IP66 and IP67 cover only a part of the environmental specifications: contaminants, dust and water intrusion in particular.

Both IP66 and IP67 enclosures should be totally protected from dust. The difference is that IP66 should be protected against the temporary flooding of water, while IP67 enclosures should be totally protected against immersion in water (an enclosure must withstand water intrusion at up to 1-meter depth for up to 30minutes).

Therefore, where limited water intrusion is acceptable, IP66 is a lower cost alternative to IP67. However, industry experts should always think over how much water intrusion is actually acceptable to electronic device. Usually any water intrusion into a camera can cause damage.

Because of the reliability and higher quality components, an IP67 camera enclosure should be used in any outdoor application. Furthermore, pressurized enclosures offer increased protection.

Our high-end CCTV cameras, designed and manufactured by COHU Electronics, have been going above and beyond the IP67 specification for years. Cohu’s outdoor cameras are built to IP67 protection specifications but with one further layer of protection: pressurization. Whether in a hot, dusty environment or standing tall in a 150 mph wind and rainstorm, Cohu’s pressurized cameras are built to last.

REDSCAN Invisible Wall Technology for Graffiti Prevention Applications

Removal of Graffiti in Australia costs millions of dollars annually and many Capital and Regional Cities have comprehensive Anti-Graffiti programs, but Graffiti Vandalism continues to be a major problem. The primary weapon against Graffiti is still post event cleaning using soap, dangerous chemicals, water and muscle.

The options for prevention of Graffiti rather than removing it post application are limited.

Patrolling guards, lighting, warning signs and sound alerts and alarms, special paint coatings can be installed but the effectiveness and their actual ability prevent a motivated or substance affected perpetrator from applying Graffiti to a surface is debatable.

The answer is REDSCAN Anti Graffiti system which prevents Tagging and Graffiti prior to any application being made to the protected surface.

A thin band of laser is positioned close to the wall REDSCAN creates a thin layer of detection against the building wall where it will ignore any close passing traffic

When an offender is detected touching or painting a protected wall the water spray is activated and the wall (and potentially the offender) will become wet and application of Graffiti becomes difficult due to the increasingly wet surface

The deterrent action of the water spray encourages Graffiti vandals to stop damaging the property and shows them it is not a soft target.

The REDSCAN can be installed vertically, horizontally or at an angle.  Therefore a horizontal or vertical or inclined detection area can be achieved

Detection range:
100ft. (30m) radius, 180 degree for vertical detection area

REDSCAN has four detection segments and will recognize the location of intrusion and activate four independent outputs for PTZ Camera Control.

As a Laser product with area mapping ability the REDSCAN can accurately map the environment with any obstacles in the area of detection. When vertically mounted the REDSCAN will follow uneven and undulating surfaces to produce uniform coverage.

WORLD FIRST!!! VARIABLE ZOOM INFRARED ILLUMINATOR

The X-ZOOM infrared illuminator has a revolutionary fully adjustable beam pattern from spot beam of 2 degrees to a 120 degree wide area flood beam.

The X-ZOOM IR illuminator can offer 2, 10, 30, 45, 60, 90 and 120 degree patterns as the site requires all within the one product.

The X-Zoom offers absolutely unparalleled flexibility to both the designer and installer.

Matching cameras and infrared illuminators, selecting beam patterns and distances of coverage for infrared is critical to the outcome of any successful CCTV that will operate during night time & low light hours.

Despite the best made plans there are always unforeseen site issues that will vary the initial design due to real world environmental concerns of light attenuation, reflection, parasitic light, camera placement, Sun and Moon can affect the visual image quality.

Fixing problems costs time and money and has the ability to put job costs over budget. The X-ZOOM with its flexibility to vary both beam distance and beam width eliminates the issue by allowing on site customization of the illumination, right at the point of installation.

The X-Zoom has already been successfully installed to provide flexibility on many private and Government projects.

For example, SKM recently specified Zoom IR illuminator to solve a problem of illuminating a difficult high security area where a number of CCTV cameras face each other.  In addition, there were roof structures, variable reflectivity in the way.  The unparalleled flexibility of adjustable beam pattern solved a complex problem with many variables. SECOM Technical Services installed Zoom IR illuminator quickly and without any issues typically expected in similar situations when traditional fixed pattern IR illuminators are used.

The X-Zoom also offers Security managers the ability to adjust the area of illumination due to seasonal changes and the different lighting requirement of winter and summer.

Effective collision avoidance technology from AIS

Growing productivity of mining sites results in significant dependence on heavy vehicles and automated equipment in open cut and underground mines. Drivers of those massive vehicles struggle with limited visibility and especially in conditions of heavy dust and smoke. This moving machinery poses a real risk to life or damage through collisions.
TAVOR™ is one of our best safety solutions for mining sites. Originally designed for military armoured vehicles, the system, manufactured by Opgal (Israel), is based on thermal imaging technology. It can be easily installed on heavy machinery and is created to work reliably in harsh operating conditions including strong shock and vibration, high temperature, rain and dust.
This cost-effective thermal imaging kit has powerful and proprietary algorithms which enable driving in complete darkness. It enables seeing through smoke, dust and dirt; anti-blooming mechanism prevents dazzle when pointed at high heat sources.

AIS introduces the world’s best innovative optical solution for perimeter protection

AIS announces launch of the best motion detection system for perimeter on the market today! Developed by leading innovative security products manufacturer Erez (Israel), Stereoscopic Passive Electro-Optic technology is based on stereoscopic video motion detection system which makes it the most innovative optical solution for protection of your perimeter.
False alarms is the main problem in any perimeter intrusion detection system. Due to use of stereoscopic technology and sophisticated detection software, it has become possible to lower false alarm rate significantly while keeping a very high probability of detection (close to 100%).
Stereoscopic Passive Electro-Optic Radar creates a virtual wall or virtual fence, and every attempt to cross it within 1.5km is immediately detected. 4 cameras, 2 thermal imaging and 2 CCD and state-of-the-art video analyser and stereoscopic motion detection software make the system fabulously accurate. The system operates by analysing and constantly comparing vision from 2 cameras (FLIR or CCD) staring at the same time at the same field of view.
Another innovative solution for perimeter protection is the world’s first comprehensive Automatic Safety Runway Surveillance System. It is ideal for foreign object detection (FOD) on runways.
These products, based on passive stereoscopy technology, provide significant advantages when compared to other optical systems. Among them:
  • Ultra low false alarm rate;
  • Very high probability of detection;
  • Low cost of installation and maintenance;
  • Operating 24/7, even in adverse weather conditions;
  • Completely automatic (no operator required for monitoring);
  • Versatile and easily adaptive to various areas;
  • Designed for outdoor applications.
Moreover, the systems conform with military standards: land and desert conditions, as well as sea environment (MIL-STD-810F). Military and border control professionals as well as those whose main duty is to provide perimeter surveillance and safety will find this technology irreplaceable for better perimeter protection.
